The social housing lawyer advises community members on issues such as tenancy rights and obligations, consumer credit/debt issues, and violations. The lawyer will also work closely with the MVLS team of Community Engagement Officers (residents of Flemington and Ascot Vale Estate) to develop and execute a community engagement campaign to increase the legal competence of social housing tenants on general legal issues, develop multilingual community resources, and build relationships with key stakeholders. Moonee Valley Legal Service Inc (MVLS) is a not-for-profit organization that began operations in 1985 (formerly known as Essendon Community Legal Centre). The Centre is a non-profit community service administered by an honorary board of trustees funded primarily by the Commonwealth and state governments through the CLSP program. MVLS provides free legal advice, support, and referrals to people who live, work, or study in the Moonee Valley City watershed, as well as free legal education for organizations, departments, and the wider community. Successful applicants may be offered 5% more than the scholarship at the end of the probationary period.
