The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the largest funder of civil legal aid in the country. LSC promotes access to justice by funding high-quality civil legal aid for low-income Americans. The company currently funds 132 local legal aid programs in every congressional district and U.S. territory. In 2018, LSC fellows reported a total of 129,186 cases of domestic violence, the highest number since the LSC began collecting such data in 2011. BayLegal`s Family Violence Prevention Project takes a holistic approach to representing survivors from all walks of life. The Family Law Department`s services are designed to provide survivors with the information and options they need to end abuse and build a safe and stable life for themselves and their children. The project provides free legal assistance to obtain injunctions, divorces, support orders, custody and access orders. TRLA`s social workers, who work with family law lawyers, provide clients with a range of services, including safety planning, crisis intervention, suicide assessments, death threat assessments, and general emotional support. Social workers help victims apply to the Texas Crime Victims` Compensation Fund and follow them to ensure they receive the benefits they deserve. Social workers accompany clients to court appearances and provide referrals and links to community services such as housing. Working closely with staff lawyers to achieve positive outcomes for victims, social workers interview clients to get rich stories that give lawyers important information. They also play an important role in their communities by participating in working group committees, giving presentations, networking with other social workers and advocates, and participating in community events such as the annual Victims` Rights Week and Angel Tree.
